Aviation at The Coves
NATURALLY PERFECT FOR AVIATORS
The Coves is one of a handful of aviation estates in South Africa, making it a sought after property in the aviation community.
The Coves boasts a 900m tarred runway with two windsocks and well maintained grass verges. Aero Cove, a 15 stand residential area situated adjacent to the runway, has been planned and designed for homes with private hangars. This means that Aero Cove residents can taxi their aeroplanes from the runway directly to their properties and hangars.
Most of the stands have been developed, but there is still the opportunity for development of the remaining stands.
You can live anywhere in The Coves and store your aeroplane in one of the additional six hangars next to the airfield.
Remote Control Flying Club (RC)
The Coves has a vibrant radio-controlled flying community, The Coves Radio Controlled Flying Club is registered with SAMAA and has dedicated areas on the property for radio controlled flying. There is also an area at the Hartbeespoort Dam waterfront for amphibian aircraft.
Members of the club are dedicated to training young pilots. An ongoing program is in place where new pilots receive training by senior radio controlled pilots on Saturday afternoons. This is an incredible opportunity for our youth to experience something completely new.
Aviation in different forms is thriving at The Coves.
The Coves Aero Club was founded in 2010. The Committee ensures that stringent operational and safety rules are rigorously applied.
There are no landing fees for owners and visitors, but a very affordable monthly Aero Club fee is in place. Visitors can only land at our airfield by invitation from a resident host. As we have mountains in close proximity, our operations are civil daylight hours only.
Full-scale flying takes the form of sport flying, touring and business flights by our pilots. Some pilots commute to work in their aeroplanes and helicopters directly from the estate. We currently have about 25 aircraft based at The Coves.
Annual Fly-In
An annual Fly-In is hosted by The Coves which gives visiting pilots the opportunity to explore the estate. The Fly-In also gives residents a chance to see many types of aircraft from close quarters (not something you get to see every day!).
Follow us on social media to be the first to know when the next Fly-In date will be.
